Two weeks ago Minneapolis Schools Voices published a story about the new tardy policy at Justice Page Middle School. The story was well-received and has received heaps of responses from Justice Page parents, teachers, and affiliated community members.
I do not believe in touching a story that I report on once. As a journalist, I would find it horribly irresponsible to publish a story like the Justice Page MIddle School tardy policy piece and to not do follow-up reporting on it.
So here’s a quick update on that reporting. Over the next two weeks, I’ll be doing the following:
- Interviewing parents and students about this policy
- Reaching back out to Justice Page Middle School and Minneapolis Public Schools again asking to interview school administration and the district leaders about this policy
- Researching discipline policies across Minneapolis Public Schools
This follow-up is just a start, but I wanted to make sure that our next steps are meaningful and transparent. These next steps will help us all better understand the new policy at Justice Page, and provide context for that policy across the district.
